China's leading item6recording label Pacific Audio & Video Inc. releases String Poetic: Chinese Folk Music for Cello, a new commercial CD composed and produced by Zhou Tian, featuring award-winning cellist Xian Zhuo and Guangzhou Symphony. The recording was commissioned by PAV to celebrate the 2010 Asian Game in Guangzhou. Available online and in stores (China).

 

NCPAs1Zhou Tian wins Indianapolis Symphony's Glick Composer Award, a competition among nominated composers from major conservatories in the US. Indianapolis Symphony will perform Zhou's winning work in a subscription concert on May 6-7, 2011.

item7Zhou Tian received the First Prize of 2009 ASCAP and Lotte Lehmann Foundation Art Songs Competition. The result of the First Prize is to receive a commission to write a song cycle to be published by E.C. Schirmer. The commissioned song cycle will be performed in three major American cities.

Zhou Tian's A Thousand Years of Good Prayers was premiered by The Green Bay Symphony under Christoph Campestrini. Of the piece, Green Bay Press-Gazette wrote "It is an appealing work that expresses an outlook on life in a story-like way….[Conductor] Campestrini called Zhou to the stage to collect his standing ovation..." Zhou's Grand Canal Suite was performed during a nationally televised celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The complete work was premiered on Oct 11, 13 and 14, 2009 by Hangzhou Philharmonic. View concert photos.

Zhou received the First Prize of 2009 Washington International Competition for Composers. Established in 1976, the composers’ competition is held every 3 years. Zhou’s winning work, Trio, was performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra Pittsburghled by Daniel Meyer performs Zhou Tian’s work during the orchestra’s first Asia Tour. Selected Cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hong Kong.

 

item2Zhou Tian has been selected as the winner of The Symphony in C Young Composers' Competition. Zhou's winning work The Palace of Nine Perfections was performed by The Symphony in C under Rossen Milanov at Rutgers-Camden Center in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

 

CurtisZhou Tian has been commissioned by Markow-Totevy Foundation for a Violin Sonata to be premiered during 2011 concert season of Curtis Institute of Music.
